Daya Synergy Borneo and Weng Yat Resources Sign MOU for Wood Pellet Exports to Japan

We are pleased to announce that Likearisingsun served as an advisor in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Daya Synergy Borneo Co., Ltd. (DSBjp) and Weng Yat Resources Sdn. Bhd. (WY), a Malaysian biomass fuel manufacturer, for the purpose of exporting wood pellets to Japan.

DSBjp is a biomass fuel trading company whose parent companies are Nakayamagumi Co., Ltd. and Kanzai Co., Ltd., both based in Hokkaido, Japan. The company has established a local subsidiary in Tawau, Sabah, Malaysia, and has long been engaged in the collection, sorting, and shipment of palm kernel shells (PKS). In recent years, against the backdrop of growing demand for biomass power generation in Japan, DSBjp has been expanding its business scope from PKS to include wood pellets.

WY is a Malaysian company established in Klang, Selangor. While its core businesses have traditionally included steel, scaffolding materials, and automotive parts, the company entered the biomass fuel manufacturing business in 2022. WY operates a factory in Tronoh, Perak, with a monthly processing capacity of 8,000 tonnes, producing wood pellets and wood briquettes. The company has also obtained PEFC Chain of Custody certification, an internationally recognized forest certification standard.

In Japan’s biomass power generation market, reducing fuel procurement costs and securing a stable supply have become key challenges. Malaysian wood pellets are gaining increasing attention in the Japanese market in terms of quality, cost competitiveness, and procurement potential, and are expected to serve as a stable source of biomass fuel going forward.
