M&A Deals by Japanese Companies in Malaysia in 2022

Among the M&A deals conducted by Japanese companies in Malaysia in 2022, we can count a total of 18 deals that have been announced externally. 16 were investments/acquisitions, 2 were withdrawals from Malaysia, and 100% buyout accounted for 4 of the investments/acquisitions. Although there are few cases where the purchase price is disclosed, it is outstanding in terms of the price that the acquisition of a functional food container manufacturer by Mitsui & Co. and FP Corporation is JPY 16 billion.

The following chart shows the number of M&A deals by Japanese companies in Malaysia over the past five years. The number of M&A deals declined from 2020 to 2021, largely due to the lockdown caused by Cov-19, but almost returned to the previous level in 2022.
